The spirits are restless, the souls of the departed are returning; a portal has been found. The dead and the living will unite again for one final, massive party, before ghouls and ghosts, zombies, skeletons and goblins pass through to the next world...
After four years of packed, exhilarating warehouse parties at Village
Underground in Shoreditch,
The nabokov Arts
Club takes over
Battersea
Arts Centre for a
Halloween Weekend Spectacular!
An extravaganza of live theatre, music, cabaret, comedy, poetry
and visual art wrapped up in a big fat party,
the
Arts Club, previously featured in The Guardian and
'Best Nights
out 2009' in The Independent, showcases the best new work, first,
from the most exciting emerging artists alongside some of the biggest
names in the business.
The
nabokov Arts Club takes place on
Friday 28 and Saturday 29 October 2011 at
Battersea
Arts Centre,
'Britain's most influential theatre' (The Guardian).
The night starts at 9pm and rages unabated until 2am, featuring
a host of live performances and celebrating the ancient customs
of the Festival of the Dead; where the living will celebrate with
the souls of the departed, present gifts at the altar of the dead
and embrace the supernatural, before one final, joyful farewell…
A stellar theatrical line-up features a unique Arts Club collaboration
between
nabokov, theatre ensemble
t
a n g l e d f e e t and award-winning playwright
Polly Stenham,
presenting a bespoke immersive theatrical event that is part ritual,
part wedding, part insane fiesta. Plus a brand new interactive comic
theatre experience by
Bad
Physics, and newcomers
The Wind-Up collective, formed from BAC's
'Homegrown' programme, performing their absurdist devised piece
'Box Junction'.
Diverse music performances will culminate in separate headline acts on each night. Friday will see eclectic 6 piece female fronted Reggae, Dub, Soul, Blues and Hip-hop influenced
Tin Roots blending genres in a raucous live show, while on Saturday night only festival legends
Yes Sir Boss' worldly musical and cultural influences and heavy blend of horn laden hooks, offbeat rhythms and epic riffs will be raising the roof, before an exclusive DJ disco set by W
illiam from the Mystery Jets! Support on both nights comes from Anglo-Swedish beatbox-blues combo
Hey Moonshaker, bluegrass trio
Harriet Darling and the Good Honeys, and stars-in-the-making singer-songwriters
Victoria Ward and
Amy Lou Black.
Meanwhile, strewn throughout the labyrinthine grandeur of BAC a vast array of insanely talented artists will be performing in every corner, with comedy from Radio 1's
Tom Deacon, Up the Creek's One-to-Watch
Harriet Kemsley, bitter-sweet horror stories by the fire with
Dave Bibby and
Greg Wohead, poetry from
Isley Lynn and duo
Richard Marsh and Katie Bonna, as well as close-up magic, character comedy, individual experiences and unexpected surprises!
PLUS… Pub sing-a-long with the Singing Skeleton… Creepy Creche… Eerie
edible treats…and lots more! Additions to the line-up will be announced
exclusively on the
nabokov
blog.
The undisputed heavyweight champion of artistic happenings, anywhere, ever, is back.
